The world we live in feels quite disconnected right now. Families, friends, schools, are all separated from the fear of this situation. Everyone is dealing with this in their own way, having very unique experiences, in the hopes that we are doing the "right" thing. No matter what you are experiencing, it is valid. We are all finding new ways to do things and new ways to create, and little by little, we are starting to reconnect. It may not look or feel the same, but it's so important to allow yourself to connect to someone or something, so that you nurture your being. Finding ways to ground yourself and your energy (whether you understand energy or not) is as simple as walking barefoot in the grass and breathing in nature.
What does "Reconnect" mean to you? To me, it's reconnecting with teaching yoga and using my voice for the highest good of all that will listen. Yoga is where I found my voice. Yes, I am an elementary school teacher, but that's a different kind of voice! Yoga has allowed me to use my "deeper" authentic voice, sharing yogic and life wisdom. Growing up and still today, I have a selective voice. I am an introvert and very shy at heart, unless you are part of my selective "bubble" of safe, trusted people. However, when I teach yoga, I somehow can share so much more knowledge and wisdom without fear of not being heard or rejected for my thoughts. Even publishing these blogs is unnerving for me because I am sending my thoughts out way past my bubble, but, it's with the hope that what I have to say is exactly what you need to hear today. It's all part of my journey to be my truest, brightest Self.
Reconnecting to teaching yoga is so important to my soul. I am a 200 hour Registered Hatha/Vinyasa yoga teacher, and advanced 300 hour Certified Hatha yoga teacher, which included 100 hours of Chakra Immersion training. I am a 30 hour Yin Yoga teacher, 25 hour Kids Yoga Teacher and Reiki Master, for a total of over 555 hours of yoga teacher trainings in the last 5 years!! Plus some extra random trainings in Energy Medicine Yoga, Yoga for Empaths and Iyengar (no certifications though). It looks crazy when I type that all out! The reason I say all that is not to boast, but to explain how deeply connected I am to my learning and the need to share my knowledge with anyone who will practice me!
Besides learning yogic philosophy, anatomy, the chakra system, subtle energy, etc., yoga has brought me deeper into my inner world. Some would say that I live very deeply in my inner world, haha! I do love it there, but I have learned so much about myself, my limitations, and fears, and have trusted my path, to bust through those obstacles that keep me stuck in my inner world, and that have allowed me to put myself out into the world in a bigger way (this blog and website!). I've learned how to connect with my body and to move it in ways that invite true healing. I am learning to connect more with my emotions (I do not like to share them in front of people), but some things are life-long journeys. I can talk in front of people and look in your eyes, where 5 years ago, I would shake on the inside, just waiting to teach my friends and teachers in yoga training. I know my purpose is to teach, in every aspect of life, so I needed to find ways to overcome my fears.
I do things at my own pace, in my own time (I was born 3 weeks late in August for goodness sake)! I move slowly in this world, but it's because I am an observer and a sensitive feeler, not because I'm lazy, unmotivated or indifferent. I have to see and watch what is going on to understand what I need and what I can do. Reconnecting and accepting those aspects of myself instead of letting myself be torn with other people's expectations has been a huge lesson for me. I no longer give my power away, just so I won't inconvenience someone else. And that's what I want to teach and share with you. I want you to know that you can change your world, by reconnecting to your inner world, finding what makes you love yourself more, and heal your body, mind and Spirit, all through the practice of yoga and meditation.
There's no time like the present! Now's your time to reconnect (whatever that means to you)! There's no wrong way. Even if it's not yoga that calls you, take the first step in the direction of what your soul is longing for, even if it's just a whisper. Tune into your body and what it needs. Your body doesn't lie. It just needs you to listen.
From my home to yours, Namaste!
